Up's and Down's - Arrival, departure - in and outs - The tool Kit
Working as a professional photographer has been on my mind for long time. My first professional photographic gig happened some days ago with the MOS - Museum of Sydney. Luck strikes and hard work combined with great images finally paid off.
This all did not come easy - 5 years developing a self funded photographic project - Blinkingimpressions.com - working as a volunteer with the Australian Centre of Photography, some times doing it the hard way, like cleaning floors and putting up with rude and arrogant curators.
But this post is more about how the changes and in's and out's of life impact on us . When you choose to jump around, travel and abdicate routine you have to be prepared to take all that comes with it. This involves giving up or losing some friends along the way, being financially in the red (eternally) and almost never connecting deeply with your family again. Also, you became hated by any potential employer who refuse to give you a job in any circumstances. Including Flickr - You would think that web company's are different - but no, they are as bad as the other ones.
On Tuesday we are back to up in the air and off to Brazil. Now not alone as Olivia - darling Olivia, is coming with us! 3 months old and lots of stories to tell.
Tool Kit - in my one I carry courage, faith in the universe, love, smiles and humour. ah - and Kimbo but only for emergencies. Nappies too - lots of nappies

TURN IT OFF
A short film by "Koyaanisqatsi" director Godfrey Reggio produced at Fabrica (www.fabrica.it) in Italy with Angela Melitopoulos and Miroslav Janek and produced by Massimo Cortesi
I wish you all the best!
The experience in itself was very interesting as I learn more about their cultures and about their individual personalities. They spoked little English and I little French or Swahili, but this did not stop us from interacting and learning more about each other.
It is interesting observing the behavior of the newcomer. IN my experience traveling I felt unsafe, unfamiliar and uncomfortable with the new setting, and all I needed to feel comfortable again was a friendly smile from someone local.
I was lucky to meet some other volunteer, as well, like Phyllis Wilians. Phyllis is a wander full person wish lots of live experience and insights. We are now doing Swahilli classes here in Darwin. The language has similar sounds as the Portuguese language so I think that is going to be very easy to learn. The other top volunteers were: John Kabaly, Marinel, Sharon and Jess Prescott.
Last night, the family lefts to Melbourne in search of greener pastures and to encounter their friends once more. I wish them all the best and recommend every one to meet and welcome a refugee family.
Courage, determination, strength, character, hope and love. I got all this out of the process.
FREE THE REFUGEES :-)

Floating dance
Also, I realized that I lost my sense of exploration, curiosity and adventure. The temporary loss of my basic self made me look the world in a completely boring way. I want a word full of personality, charisma, friendship, ethic a fulfilling one. I really believe it is possible but.... you have to move around...or spin with purpose.
This photo was taken in Turkey last year....here you go...spinning with purpose
Sufi music is special and touches your soul. I never knew much about Islam and its past and divisions. This was a great introduction to it while in Turkey. They really get into a magical trance. The practice of Sufi whirling (or Sufi spinning), (Arabic: رقص سماع) is a twirling meditation that originated among the Turkish Sufis, which is still practiced by the Dervishes of the Mevlevi order.
The whirling is done on the spot in an anticlockwise direction, with the right arm held high, palm upwards, and the left arm held low, palm downwards. The body of the whirler is meant to be soft with eyes open, but unfocused so that images become blurred and flowing. The ritual involves a 15-minute period of slow rotation, followed by a gradual build up of speed over the next 30 minutes. The trance-like whirling then takes over. Cool isn’t’ it?
